day seven

We give You thanks today, O God, for the desert land on which the Casa sits: for the mountains that rise to the north and south; for the trees and plants that survive and thrive to create an oasis in the arid climate; for the animals that we share the land with; and for the quiet that reigns in the midst of a major city.

  1. Three apostles once stood atop a gentle mountain not unlike our Camelback peak and they witnessed a transformed, translucent Jesus. But they chose not to stay on that summit forever. Jesus often withdrew into the arid and aromatic desert to experience the Father in the silence of stark desertscape. But Jesus chose not to stay in that silence forever. I am grateful for the oasis that is the Casa grounds. I am grateful for all the named and nameless gardnerers who are co-creators of a new Eden here in Scottsdale. I am grateful for the grounds that have been an oasis of transformations along with moments of silence that have nourished and sustained me. But I am also grateful to the Friars, the staff, the Casa companions who have guided me off the mountain, out of the refuge, away from the oasis and accompanied me onward to the building of the Kingdom of God.
